      <image:caption>Here’s how it works! Very cool. You just thread the fabric strips through the large opening; I use a very tiny crochet hook to help it through the small opening; and then you just follow it with you iron to press the edges towards the center of the strip. <image:title>Blog - Tie Closure Pillowcase Tutorial</image:title>
      <image:caption>Here’s how I understitch: I give that seam a good press, then I use my edgestitching foot (optional) to sew a finishing stitch on the lining; it sews the seam allowance underneath to the lining piece, so that the stitching is only visible on the lining and not on the exterior of the pillow. (Make sure not to understitch the ties to the lining! Keep them out of the way.) Then I just give the edge a good press. If that sounds too fancy for you, it’s perfectly OK to just topstitch the edge of the pillowcase or leave it.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Here’s a picture of me using a ladder stitch to close the turning gap. (YouTube can show you how to do this stitch if it isn’t familiar.) Ladder stitch isn’t a very strong stitch, so it’s best to sew with a double length of thread. There are specialty upholstery needles for this job, but I don’t have one.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>This mockup has my heart. I adore this cozy look; none of these fabrics is a Christmas print, and yet something about this one gives me happy, Christmasy vibes. Art Gallery Fabrics: Pure Solids in Poppy, Northern Waters, Ocean Fog, Atmospheric, Forget-Me-Not, Pacific, Sienna Brick, and Autumnal; Fableism fabrics: Sprout Wovens in Chamomile, Camp Gingham in Merit Pink, Dobby Hearts in Blueberry, Forest Forage Daisies in Welsummer; Tilda fabrics: Creating Memories Gingham in yellow and blue; Caf Fabrics: Between the Lines Dots and Stripes Black; Rifle Paper Co fabrics: Bon Voyage Meadow in Flax. Oh, and one other thing I haven’t mentioned is that the FQ version of Faelights gives you the option to cut the sashing squares from your FQ remnants. Isn’t that cute? AGF Pure Solids: Desert Dunes, Dried Moss, Honey, Northern Waters, Toasty Walnut, Terracotta Tile, Garden Fern, Sienna Brick, Golden Bronze, Aurora Red, Ocean Fog, and Night Sea; the stars and binding are Nocturnal, the sashing rectangles are Vanilla Custard, and the sashing squares are from the FQ scraps.</image:caption>

Diamond Textiles brushed cottons: Madras Plaid in Denim, Plaid in Maple Syrup, Mini Stripes in Meadow, Plaid in Traditional, Mini Checks in Blue Suede, Candy Stripe in Denim, Mini Stripes in Traditional, Plaid in Meadow, and Stripes in Honeycomb; sashing squares and stars are Grid in Oatmeal, sashing squares are Plaid in Barn Red, and binding is Plaid in Marigold.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Trimming QSTs</image:title>
      <image:caption>Now, this is the tricky bit: you have to line up your ruler just so. See those little red dots? They’re a square quarter-inch away from the edges of your unfinished block size. In other words, I’m trimming this QST to 3.5”x3.5”. I want to line up the seams with points a quarter-inch away from the 3.5” edges on my ruler. And if you haven’t sewn a perfect scant quarter-inch seam (hey, it happens!), your seams might not line up perfectly with those dots.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:title>Blog - Trimming QSTs</image:title>
      <image:caption>Then you just trim along the ruler edges…</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>

      <image:title>Blog - Trimming QSTs</image:title>
      <image:caption>…and rotate your QST 180 degrees to trim the other side. Don’t forget to line up your seams on the dots again, and the trimmed edge with the 3.5” lines.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Making QSTs and spinning seams</image:title>
      <image:caption>Step one: Place (2) HSTs right sides together, opposite colors on opposite sides. Two options: You can either draw one line down the center as in the graphic and sew on either side of it; or you can draw two lines ½" apart marking the sewing lines exactly as in the photograph (I use a special, tiny cute ruler to do this).</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:title>Blog - Making QSTs and spinning seams</image:title>
      <image:caption>This picture just shows you how, if you’ve pressed your seams in opposite directions (I pressed them both towards the blue), they’ll nest.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:title>Blog - Making QSTs and spinning seams - Tip:</image:title>
      <image:caption>Here’s how I clip my QSTs. I don’t use pins. I don’t add pins to the center; nested seams should be enough to help those seams line up. Bonus tip: Put it through your sewing machine with the top seam’s edge going first. If your presser foot pushes the top layer of fabric back towards you (like it tends to do), it’ll just push against the nested seam on the bottom and nothing will end up moving out of place.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Making QSTs and spinning seams</image:title>
